Expeditions
EPC members regularly
travel abroad for cave
exploration and tourist caving. For
2010 expeditions are planned to the Dent de Crolles in France,
Matienzo in Spain and Albania.
Forthcoming
expeditions
- Matienzo
2010.
2010 marks fifty years of the Matienzo expedition and Dan Hibberts is
planning the usual Matienzo trip at Easter. Contact Dan
Hibberts for details.
- Dent de Crolles 2010. This year's
summer trip will be to the Dent de Crolles in the Chartreuse region of
France. The Dent de Crolles system is one of the largest in France with
approx 58 km of passage and is the sixth deepest in France today. It
was first explored
by Pierre Chevalier, Ferdnand Petzl and others during WWII. There are a
number of entrances and plenty of opportunities for different traverses
e.g. Trou du Glaz to Grotte Annette, P40 to Grotte du Guiers Mort. The
area also has plenty of climbing, good walking, via ferrata and other
activities so potentially a good venue for anyone who wants to bring the
family. Date will be set at the beginning of 2010.
- Albania 2010. EPC members have had a
couple of trips to Albania during 2009 and made some good contacts and
found some potentially interesting sites. An expedition is being
planned for late summer/early autumn next year to push some of the
leads already identified and do some more surface work. Dates for this
should be finalised before the end of 2009.
